The Road of Never Giving Up; Alex Smith

Alex Smith has battled through more ups and downs throughout his NFL career then most. Smith has never slowed down nor has he taken anybody’s negativity to heart. The 49’ers are having their best season in ten years. This is something to be credited to the coaching staff and Alex Smith.
Alex Smith has not had any stability in the organization, so it’s understandable for his demise in recent years. As you can see with a little encouragement and stability Alex Smith can be one of the top QB’s in the League. Against the Saints one of the highest powered offenses in the NFL this year, Smith went score for score. Smith made play after play when he had to. Most thought that he would simply manage the game and continuously hand the ball off to his super star running back Frank Gore, but the story was far from that. Smith’s numbers were impeccable; throwing for 299 yards, completing 24 out of 49 pass attempts, tossing 3 touchdowns and rushing for a late touchdown to put the 49’ers in position to win the game. One of the three touchdowns Smith threw was a game winner with 7 seconds to go; he seemed to make the drive up the field look easy. Although Smith had a fired up tight end in Vernon Davis to throw the ball to, this does not change the confidence and calmness Smith put on display.
Now Smith needs to take a few more steps to make it too and win the ultimate goal; The Super Bowl. The bandwagon is building fast, the 49’ers look on point with all aspects of the game, special teams, offense and defense. The San Francisco 49’ers are looking in the right position to bring a Super Bowl back to the Bay area since Hall of Famer Steve Young did this feat in 1995.
Lebron James Performance Against the Golden State Warriors

How can an athlete such as Lebron James become the target of such scrutiny. Well that is exactly it; he is a star. For years we as fans of the great sport of basketball have been putting our athletes under turmoil.
Lebron has led the Miami Heat to a blazing 8-2 start. So when Lebron has a sub par performance in the 4th quarter most tend to jump the gun. Lebron is averaging roughly 30 points a game with 8 rebounds and 8 assist. He is arguably having a MVP type of year, but does not get noted for it.
Before jumping the gun and tossing the entire season under the rug over one bad performance. Lebron James is a stellar athlete with many great performances, but he is not perfect and expecting perfection is not the route that needs to be taken. He has worked hard on his post game and many other aspects. So sit back and enjoy the talent.
No Chance for Penn State’s New Head Coach Bill O’Brien

After everything that has been swarming around the Penn State facilities some would think there would be a sense of relief with the new hire of head coach Bill O’Brien. That’s not the case; O’Brien has received far from a warm reception and has generated a media frenzy. With Sandusky going through court and legal battles and Joe pa’ battling his own set of personal and health issues, many thought the new hire would be the first step to putting this dismal season behind the university.
People close to the organization have spoken on Penn State’s new head coaching hire. Most Notably former Penn State linebacker Lavar Arrington, he stated that, “I’m done all my PSU stuff will be down before obriens introduction! We are! No more for me!” With such anger directed at this University, I cannot imagine how Penn State sees they can move forward with recruiting and task that need to be handled before the start of the new season.
This is far more than a football issue; we are dealing with people and their lives. The Penn State head coaching job is too heavy of a burden for any one man to take on. How are you supposed to move forward with the 2012 season when you are still looking back to all the chaos that surfaced this year?
Although Penn State will pick up the pieces and move forward with their football program, I believe the damage is done. Penn State has a long road to travel and it will get worse before it gets better.
Why was Justin Blackmon not a Heisman finalist?

If you were watching the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl last night, then you observed an amazing performance by OSU’s Justin Blackmon. Blackmon was not able to practice the majority of the time leading up to the Fiesta Bowl due to an infection in his leg. Blackmon was still able to over shadow the quarterback machine and Heisman runner up Andrew Luck, racking up 8 catches for 186 yards, averaging 23.3 yards a catch and scoring 3 touchdowns. Blackmon accounted for more than half of Oklahoma States points. This is not your typical receiver, the power and agility combination that this athlete possesses is unheard of. He gets in and out of his routes like a Victor Cruz but has the power to break tackles like a Rob Gronkowski.
This year has been a standout year for Blackmon, catching almost every ball thrown his way. He has 121 receptions, 1,522 yards and 18 touchdowns. Blackmon has lead his team to a BCS bowl win and a number 3 ranking in the nation. He is projected to be taken in the top 9-12 picks in the NFL draft. So the question is why wasn’t Blackmon a Heisman finalist? As you could see last night Blackmon was the game changer, the MVP, the reason OSU came out of that bowl with a win. So when it came to the Heisman race where was Blackmon? Although I think the Heisman finalist this year were worthy, there was just not enough attention directed Blackmon’s way. It seems he was not even a thought or consideration when it came down to choosing the finalist. For example LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu had a suspension for “fake marijuana” mid way through the college football season, but nobody seemed to take that into consideration when choosing the “BEST” college football player in the nation.
The last wide receiver to win the Heisman was Tim Brown in 1987; this is too much time to pass without giving any wide receiver this award. Since the first Heisman award was given in 1935, 27 quarterbacks have won, compared to a meager 4 wide receivers. The wide receiver position gets lost in the Heisman conversation. Seems as if the credit is never given to the receiver for catching balls, it’s more given to the quarterback for throwing them. This is just something to catch your attention when you begin thinking about next year and the Heisman Contenders.
T-mac scores 13 points in 35 seconds!

My fantasy NBA season starts tommorrow! Need some big seasons out of Blake Griffin and Kobe Bryant.
Tebow Loses but The Maddness Continues

We all witnessed the performance Tim Tebow put on in the Broncos vs Cheifs game. Tim Tebow had a lackluster game throwing for only 6 completions with 22 pass attempts, lobbing up a end of the game INT to top. Can Tebow quarterback in the NFL? That’s the question that is being buzzed around in the NFL. I think Tebow is a wonderful inspiration to many people and is also a great guy, but as far as being a productive quarterback in the league; i think not. The Denver Broncos are probably the worst team i have ever seen win a division. He has slowly declined in the last 3 games of the season, almost losing the magic we became so accustom to. Broncos now are faced with a choice; go with popular public option and keep Tim Tebow as your starting quarterback or look elsewhere for your quarterback of the future. It’s a difficult decision to make, but it’s a decision the Broncos general manager John Elway must make.
